A smoothly curved body skimming on shallow water

چکیده

We investigate the dynamics of a smoothly curved convex body skimming on layer shallow water, with phenomenon skipping stones as primary modelling motivation but also industrial applications in mind. The process such an object may consist two successive stages: impact stage and conditional planing stage. focus here is explaining change from one to other, movement responding freely fluid flow pressures vice versa. first introduce water model analyse conditions under which smooth rapidly transit motion via small time asymptotics. A then introduced, particular we effects pressure separation flow; demonstrate certain weak adverse gradient body’s at early times can be seen undergoing three transitory phases.

Binocular Depth Judgments on Smoothly Curved Surfaces

Binocular disparity is an important cue to depth, allowing us to make very fine discriminations of the relative depth of objects. In complex scenes, this sensitivity depends on the particular shape and layout of the objects viewed. For example, judgments of the relative depths of points on a smoothly curved surface are less accurate than those for points in empty space. It has been argued that ...

Skimming impacts and rebounds on shallow liquid layers

The evolution of the combined solid–fluid motion when a solid body undergoes a skimming impact with (and rebounds from) a shallow liquid layer is investigated. A model is derived coupling the motion of the body to the fluid dynamics of the liquid layer. This predicts that the lift on the body induced by the pressure in the liquid layer is sufficient to entirely retard its incident downward moti...

Symmetry facilitates shape constancy for smoothly curved 3D objects.

We tested whether the presence of symmetry improves shape discrimination across changes in viewpoint and lighting for smoothly curved 3D objects. We constructed symmetric and asymmetric versions of random 3D shapes by manipulating their spherical harmonic representations. Matched objects had the same power spectra and appear highly similar except for the presence of symmetry. Observers discrimi...

Diurnal temperature fluctuations in an artificial small shallow water body

For aquatic biological processes, diurnal and annual cycles of water temperature are very important to plants as well as to animals and microbes living in the water. An existing one-dimensional model has been extended to simulate the temperature profile within a small water body. A year-round outdoor experiment has been conducted to estimate the model input parameters and to verify the model. B...

Effects of changing viewing conditions on the perceived structure of smoothly curved surfaces.

Observers' perceptions of a male and a female torso were investigated using monocular and stereoscopic images under varying conditions of illumination. Observers judged the shapes of these torsos by adjusting a gauge figure to estimate the local slant and tilt at numerous probe points arranged in a lattice over the torso's surface. The results revealed that the judged surfaces in the monocular ...
